The multipurpose arena (Color Line Arena) here was completed in 2002 and has already served as one of the venues for the IHF Handball World Championships 2007. For the 15th FINA World Championships 2013 this multipurpose arena offers a full and modern environment. With the temporary competition pool the arena has a spectator capacity of 11,000 seats. The temporary warm-up pool for swimming would be built outside the arena roofed by a tent with a direct and roofed walkway into the arena. The main pool for the water-polo matches and an additional temporary competition and warm-up pool with stands for 6,000 spectators will be built outside the multipurpose arena.
If the OC observes a strong demand for tickets significantly exceeding the capacity of the multipurpose arena, the Hamburg Aquatic Parc offers the possibility to host the swimming competitions in the former FIFA World Cup 2006 stadium, which is located adjacent to the multipurpose arena. Additional temporary stands inside the stadium would then create a spectator capacity of 25,000 seats.
